The latest Toledo Stories documentary, War of 1812 in the Old Northwest, premieres at 8 tonight on WGTE-TV, Channel 30. In 1812, a very young United States had its sights set on expansion to the north and the west. But the British wanted to keep its former colony tightly contained. In the balance were the lands of the Northwestern Frontier.

War of 1812 in the Old Northwest, produced by WGTE's Darren LaShelle, brings to life some of the more famous names and places of the war, each closely linked to our region: Tecumseh, William Henry Harrison, Oliver Hazard Perry, Fort Meigs, River Raisin, and the Battle of Lake Erie.

In addition to contemporary high-definition footage of the locations that played a prominent role in the war, the film is illustrated with archival photos, paintings, and newly created maps.

Douglas Brinkley, David Skaggs, and Randall Buchman are among the historians and authors featured in the program, along with Eric Hemenway, who works in the Cultural Preservation Department for the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians in Northern Michigan.

Arrested

Lindsay Lohan was arrested in New York early Wednesday on charges that she clipped a pedestrian with her car and did not stop, police said.

The 26-year-old actress was arrested at 2:25 a.m. as she left a nightclub at the Dream Hotel on 16th Street in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood, police said. They said no alcohol was involved.

Lohan was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and causing injury. She was given a ticket and will have to appear in court at a later date.

Police said Lohan was driving a black Porsche slowly through an alley between the Dream Hotel and the Maritime Hotel when the accident occurred.

The victim called 911. He was treated at a hospital for a knee injury and released.

Ouch

Jon Cryer cracks up viewers every week on his hit CBS sitcom. But now the Two and a Half Men star is aching from a crackup of his own.

During the cycling part of a triathlon on Sunday, Cryer lost control of his bicycle, and hit the pavement skidding.

Nothing was broken, but he left skin from his left side along a Los Angeles roadway.

Two and a Half Men stars Cryer along with Ashton Kutcher. It begins its 10th season on Sept. 27.
