That Sen. Bernie Moreno is a classless act was evident when the Ohio Republican let loose an obscenity during Dr. Anthony Fauci’s interrogation at a Senate committee hearing Wednesday over his response to the coronavirus pandemic six years ago.

Ohio Republican U.S. Senator Bernie Moreno and practically the entire Democratic Congressional establishment are in agreement that U.S. Rep. Max Miller, (R., Bay Village) should end his campaign for re-election over credible claims of spousal abuse. The Democratic Women’s Caucus calls for a House Ethics Committee investigation if Rep. Miller doesn’t resign. Senator Moreno’s support ratchets up the pressure.

A recent Page of Opinion writer mentioned that the Social Security Fairness Act of 2023 has accelerated the depletion of the Social Security funds. Please allow me to clarify the issue. In 1983, the federal government passed the Windfall Elimination Provision. It was perceived that public employees who also worked a period of time under Social Security were somehow receiving a windfall when they retired and drew Social Security benefits, if they contributed to the fund and if they qualified. Allow me to inject my own personal experience.

CRAWFORD NOTCH, N.H. — Two hundred years ago this month, a ferocious storm moved through these mountains, prompting a massive landslide that killed seven members of the Willey family and two hired workers. More than two decades ago, the Great Stone Face, the beloved rock formation above Franconia Notch that was the symbol of this state and the inspiration for scores of 19th-century paintings and the soaring oratory of Daniel Webster, collapsed. Last week, the Democratic National Committee took steps to end more than a century’s tradition of New Hampshire holding the first presidential primary, delivering the prize to South Carolina.

LIKE MANY northwest Ohioans, I want safer streets and secure neighborhoods, and families protected from crime. The contributing factors to crime are many, but leadership, nationally, and within our community, factors into the equation. Our representatives in government matter. I’m tired of soft-on-crime politicians pointing the finger at the police rather than holding criminals accountable.

Marcy Kaptur stands up for veterans, and she is responsible for the World War II Memorial now in Washington. She has been active at working for the protection of Lake Erie. She gives good advice to legislators with her strong moral compass. Also, she works hard for the middle class instead of for billionaires. We in northwest Ohio are very lucky to have such an advocate.

EAST LANSING, Mich. — Back in the 1960s, people sought spiritual gurus to help them center themselves and find meaning. Later, we used “guru” to mean any kind of expert. Peter Drucker, for example, was the “management guru.”
