Russian President Vladimir Putin’s recent pronouncement that the war against Ukraine could end soon has no credibility but still must mean something, aside from begging an obvious observation: Since Putin initiated the war and is the one who keeps it going, the war cannot end unless Putin decrees it or is removed from office.

But if Oregon City Council made that selection to shut down the Oregon Economic Development Foundation, they are fools.

DETROIT — Regardless of whatever else happens, there’s one proposal certain to be on the Michigan ballot this November. Voters will be asked if they want to call a convention to write a new state constitution. Virtually the entire establishment is against the idea.

It is ironic on this 250th anniversary of American independence from the British Empire that after President Trump declares an American “victory” over Iran he is reportedly envisioning American “conquests” of other countries. He has already mentioned seeking a U.S. takeover of Cuba. Trump had a similar idea regarding Canada, which was very offended by such a proposal and vigorously opposed it.

Regarding the article by Vincent Lucarelli April 30, “Maumee gets first NaloxBox to expand overdose response access,” we in Wood County applaud the efforts and success of Jessica Pacynski in getting more assistance for those dealing with the effects of an overdose. We also thank Maumee’s First Presbyterian Church for being a leader in accepting the responsibility for the new NaloxBox. I write to clarify that the “desert” referenced by Ms. Pacynski, which exists south of the Ohio Turnpike, ends at the Maumee River.

Lucas County voters showed up for the May, 2026 primary and they are ready for change in Ohio! Nearly 20 percent of eligible voters cast ballots, a meaningful increase from the May, 2022 primary, which saw less than 15 percent turnout. We are a community that is engaged, energized, and ready to be heard.

BOSTON — As he lies dying, the man who once snarled from the floor of the House of Representatives — whose rhetorical rockets’ red blare mercilessly exposed the logical flaws in the arguments of his overmatched opponents, whose piercing, pitiless wit stung his rivals, whose caustic asides roiled his political caucus — can barely muster a whisper.

Lucas County is known as a prime agricultural area. This region has been recognized over the years to be at the top in production of corn and soybeans. Let’s not give up our top food producing land to a data center. That would be self-harming and foolish.

Railroads facilitate employment for millions of Americans, including thousands of Ohioans who serve as the backbone of our agriculture, construction, and manufacturing industries. From corporate employees working in dispatching and logistics to yard workers and maintenance crews, those employed directly by our railroads work tirelessly to advance our economy, moving more than a billion tons of freight annually to national and international markets. As a 30-plus year railroader and lifetime resident of northwest Ohio, I feel obligated to express my concerns.
