4/2/2025 Larry Gunn Williams - Obituaries
Larry-Gunn-Williams

Larry Gunn Williams
Lover of teaching and family, Larry Gunn Williams, 78, died Saturday, March 29, at Ebeid Hospice from complications of Parkinson's pneumonia. Larry was born in Toledo on December 29, 1946, to Richard "Dick" Williams and Helen Gunn Williams Miller. A lifelong Toledoan, Larry was a graduate of DeVilbiss High School, Class of 1964, where he tried to avoid being seen by schoolmates as he was dropped off by his mother who was a counselor there. Larry then attended his beloved University of Michigan where he earned a bachelor's degree in meteorological engineering followed by a master's degree in educational technology from the University of Toledo. Larry has had the same two seats in The Big House for more than fifty years. A lover of math and science, Larry taught both subjects; first at Jones Jr. High, downtown, and then at Rogers High School. Larry was quick to offer a spontaneous lecture on, well, any subject, but especially science. His wife threatened over the years to buy him a soap box. Larry met his great love, Tamar Conley Williams, when he rang her apartment doorbell after being set up on a blind date in November, 1986. They were married the following October and enjoyed thirty-seven years of humor, love, and fun. Strong and kind are two words that describe him best. A career in marketing communications came after teaching where many lifelong friends were made. But many times he exclaimed that being a dad was the greatest job of his life. Especially being the swim dad of tadpoles, collegiate swimmers, and coaches.
Larry is survived by his wife, Tami; daughters Hollis Marjory Williams, Linden Gunn (Warren) Tracey; and granddaughter, Lennon "Lenny" Gunn Tracey. His beloved sister, Carol (Tony) Feiock grieves from Kansas City; as do the families of their children, Drs. David (Sarah Gladstone) Feiock of Kansas City and Jenny (Joe) Higgins of Chicago.
Opportunities to celebrate Larry's life include a visitation from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., on Saturday, May 10, with the memorial service at 12:00 p.m., followed by a luncheon. These events will be held at Sylvania United Church of Christ, 7240 Erie Street, in Sylvania, Ohio, where Larry's family has belonged for thirty-five years.
Memorial donations may be given to YMCA Storer Camp, https://www.ymcatoledo.org/storer-donate-here/. Those interested in donating to celebrate Larry's life should click the green button reading, "I want to make a gift in memory or honor of someone."

Ron was born on August 22, 1932, to James and Elizabeth Thompson of Point Place. He grew up a happy boy, playing and romping around the marshes with his brother, Jim. As a boy, he enjoyed boy scouts, hunting, fishing and sports. He attended Woodward High School, where he played football. He was an avid Detroit Tigers fan throughout his life. In his younger days, he loved bowling and boating on Lake Erie. Golf was a lifelong passion of his and he played on the Waite High/Woodward High alumni league for 30 years. Last year, he was the most senior man in the league showing the younger men that retirement doesn't mean a rocking chair. Ron also enjoyed playing Euchre at the Elks club in Maumee.
Ron was drafted into the Army during the Korean conflict where he proudly served his country. Once back in the U.S., he became a master plumber and worked at Dunbar Mechanical for many years. He started his own business after leaving Dunbar, which was called Thompson-Mallendick Mechanical Contractors. His next career move was to JDRM Engineering where he finished his career at age 79.
Ron taught Local 50 plumbing apprenticeship classes for 27 years. Ron created plumbing plans for building all over Toledo and surrounding cities. Flower Hospital, Toledo Hospital, the University of Toledo, and the Polar Bear and Hippo areas of the Toledo Zoo are just a few that he worked on. Ron was well known around the city and everyone who knew him held him in high regard.

4/2/2025 Thomas Lee Gearhart - Obituaries
Thomas-Lee-Gearhart

Thomas Lee Gearhart
Thomas Lee Gearhart, 82, was called home on Friday, March 28, 2025, at The Grove Memory Care Center in Toledo, OH. He was born in Toledo on November 23, 1942, to parents Edwin and Genevieve Gearhart. Tom lived in Toledo his whole life, and was proud to call it home.
He graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1960 and went on to study at the University of Toledo, but shortly after enrollment he joined the Navy as a journalist. He went around the world on the USS Enterprise from 1964-1965. After discharge, Tom began working for the Toledo Blade newspaper in June of 1967. He started out as a general assignment reporter, and his first City Desk beat was race relations and civil rights. As time went on, Tom was the Blade Magazine editor, the entertainment editor, and eventually the editor of the features department. During this time, much of Tom's role included writing reviews of plays in the Toledo area and beyond. He reviewed 192 stage productions in the Toledo area between 1980-2000, and countless others on Broadway, off Broadway, in Chicago, and even Stratford and Ontario, Canada. Tom often included family members and close friends in his local work and travels, which led to many memorable experiences.
From 2000-2010, Tom volunteered as a patient transporter at St. Luke's Hospital. He enjoyed making new friends there and was the perfect person to ease the minds of those experiencing pain or fear. If anyone met Tom and he didn't make them laugh within the first five minutes, they must not have been listening! His intelligence and quick wit made for engaging conversations, poignant discussions on any topic, and side-splitting laughter when appropriate (for the most part). He truly cared about others, showed interest in their thoughts and views, and was a great listener.
Tom's favorite pastime was shooting pool, and he was exceptionally skilled. He played in numerous pool leagues in town, and often surprised new opponents with his expertise. Tom was always happy to share tips and tricks with up-and-coming pool sharks, and while he was competitive, what mattered most to him was having a great time and enjoying camaraderie with others. While he stopped playing pool only a few years ago, Tom and his daughter continued to make regular outings to his favorite restaurants and watering holes where he could still enjoy a cold Miller Lite and schmooze with the locals. Tom really never met a stranger, and those lucky enough to have crossed his path will always be his friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Eddie Gearhart; and his loving wife of 44 years, Barbara Gearhart. He is survived by his devoted daughter, Elizabeth (Brady) Grimm; grandchildren, Genevieve and Caroline Grimm; sisters, Mary Bailie and Gloria Gearhart; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at Ansberg-West Funeral Home, at 3000 West Sylvania Avenue in Toledo, on Thursday, April 10, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date. Details will be shared with family and friends once arrangements are made.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601, www.alz.org
